Special Photographs

(Updated with pictures, below!)

Pictures are everywhere! You can snap the most adorable photos on your cell phone or your digital camera, but there is something so memorable and permanent about having "real" photographs taken of your family.

If you have been meaning to find a photographer to capture a recent engagement, wedding, pregnancy, newborn, or young kids--I highly recommend Laura Simson, who shot our family photos last spring

Not too long ago, she hosted a free photoshoot give away on her blog  and we won! We decided to do the photoshoot in honor of Mother's Day weekend. We are so pleased with the results. Laura sent me a questionnaire to inspire our "daily sweetness" lifestyle photography session. My answers are posted below and you can find the pictures here.

Thank you Laura!

Q: Introduce me to your family.

A: Evans, Emily, Van (2.5 yrs), and "Jeanie" (Jean-Margaret) (3 months), our 6-year-old golden, Sophie

Q: Tell me about your home. Where do you spend your time, and what do you do in those spaces?

A: We spend lots of time outside. We have a garden out front and a porch in the back. Van has been playing lots of basketball and enjoys his playhouse and swing.

He loves when Evans helps him "climb" the tree out front...it cracks him up.

I like to cook so we are always in the kitchen...Van has recently enjoyed sitting on the counter and chatting with me while I fix breakfast, lunch, and dinner which is precious to me because I know this probably won't last long!

We inherited an antique lazy susan kitchen table from Evans's grandmother and love having family meals around it (and Van likes to spin the top). Evans's dad also grew up around the same table and it seems to be an anchor for good food and good conversation.

I am nursing Jeanie so she is usually always in my arms or in my lap--we end up sitting in places where Van can entertain us with his endearing antics.

There is a couch next to the lazy susan and we like to read books and have coffee there most mornings and Van will inevitably pull out a dump truck or something on wheels to push around the floors.

JM loves laying on her changing table, especially when Van is entertaining her.

We also spend lots of time in the playroom and den-which has a large window so we can observe everything going on in the backyard.

Q: What is it about your child/children at this stage that you NEVER want to forget.

A: Smiles! Van laughs every time you throw a ball really high and JM smiles when you talk to her after a feeding or if Van starts chatting with her. He says "hey baby Jean!!" And she normally lights up at the sound of his voice. Its the best part of my day. I love Van's curiosity and creativity. I really enjoy catching JM watching her brother--she is so fascinated by him.

JM's hair has got to be one of my favorite surprises with her...she was born with a head full of black hair.

Van has these sweet little spaces in between each tooth and I think its what makes his smile so infectious.

I love that our little girl favors her daddy and our little boy favors me--there is something very balanced about that!! :).

Van has these "camo" boots that he loves because he can put them on (usually the wrong feet) by himself. I definitely would love to remember those because his grandparents bought them for him when JM was born because we forgot to pack any shoes.
